Customs officers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport intercepted 52 refurbished mobile phones and three drones during routine inspections. The items were found in luggage and flagged for further examination. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) confirmed the seizure, stating the goods were detected by customs officers.

The intercepted items were identified as potentially smuggled goods. The KRA has not yet released details on the origin or intended destination of the items. Officials emphasized that the discovery was made through standard customs procedures. No arrests were made in connection with the seizure.

This is not the first time customs authorities have intercepted electronic devices at the airport. In 2022, similar items were seized during a routine check, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat smuggling. The KRA has previously reported increased efforts to monitor imports and prevent illegal trade. The recent discovery underscores the continued challenge of enforcing customs regulations at one of East Africa’s busiest airports.
