Kenya's Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) reported collecting Sh90 billion in customs revenue during September, exceeding the Treasury's target by Sh965 million. The increase was driven by higher imports, which contributed to the growth in non-oil collections.
The Treasury had set a target of Sh89.035 billion for customs revenue in September, but KRA surpassed it by nearly 1% due to increased import activity. Non-oil imports, in particular, saw a notable rise, contributing to the overall growth in revenue. The data was released as part of the government's quarterly financial update.
This marks the second consecutive month that KRA has exceeded its customs revenue target. The rise in imports, especially in non-oil categories, reflects growing economic activity and trade volumes. The Treasury has noted that the performance is a positive sign for the country's fiscal health. The figures are expected to contribute to the government's broader economic recovery efforts.
