Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has launched his political party, The Equitable Party, in a move that signals his growing influence in Kenyan politics. The event, attended by key governors, senators, and lawmakers, marked the formal establishment of the party, which Sifuna will lead. His announcement comes as he prepares to run for president in the 2027 general elections.
Sifuna’s political ambitions have gained traction following his recent elevation as the new leader of the party. The Equitable Party was formed after the original founders restructured the organization, aligning it with Sifuna’s vision for national leadership. His supporters, including MP Babu Owino, have publicly endorsed his leadership and presidential aspirations.
Sifuna’s rise in political prominence has not gone unnoticed. Political commentator Mutahi Ngunyi has warned that while Sifuna’s popularity is growing, it may be short-lived. Ngunyi’s remarks highlight the challenges of maintaining political momentum in a competitive electoral landscape. Sifuna’s new party is seen as a strategic move to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 elections.
