A growing number of Kenyans are turning to side jobs to cope with the worsening housing crisis, according to a recent survey. The report shows that 55 percent of respondents are engaging in additional work to cover housing costs.

The survey, conducted by Habitat, highlights the financial strain on households. Over 88 percent of Kenyans expect the housing situation to worsen. Many families are cutting back on essential expenses to stay in their homes.

The crisis has deep roots, with rapid urbanization outpacing infrastructure development. Nairobi, the capital, has seen a surge in informal settlements. Government efforts to provide affordable housing have not kept pace with demand. The situation reflects broader economic challenges, including high inflation and limited job opportunities.
