The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a warning about rising car thefts targeting motorists staying at short-term rental facilities like Airbnb. The alert came after reports of incidents where vehicles were stolen from parked cars at such locations.

A man reportedly experienced a break-in at an Airbnb property, where his car was stolen during the night. The DCI used this case to highlight the growing threat of organized theft rings targeting travelers. The agency urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and take precautions when leaving vehicles unattended.

This warning comes amid broader efforts by the DCI to enhance security ahead of the 2027 General Election. The agency has been cracking down on criminal activities, including goonism and misinformation, to ensure public safety. In separate operations, the DCI arrested two men for impersonating a government official to defraud citizens.

The DCI has also intensified patrols in Nairobi to address security threats. Officials emphasized that the measures are part of a coordinated strategy to protect citizens and maintain order during the electoral period. The agency continues to investigate reported incidents and is working with local authorities to prevent further crimes.
