The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced higher electricity charges for October 2026. Households and businesses in Kenya will pay an additional Ksh4.10 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). The increase follows adjustments published in the Kenya Gazette.
The regulator introduced three cost adjustments affecting electricity pricing. These include fuel energy costs, foreign exchange fluctuations, and water resource management. The changes aim to reflect current economic conditions and operational expenses. The new rates will apply to all consumers starting in October 2026.
This marks the first major electricity price adjustment in several years. Previous increases were implemented in 2022 and 2023, with similar adjustments based on energy costs and currency exchange rates. The latest update follows ongoing challenges with fuel prices and currency stability. The government has not yet commented on the impact of the new tariffs on consumers.
