In Nairobi, fuel prices surged following a regulatory adjustment by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). The regulator announced increases of Sh12.93 for petrol, Sh9.90 for diesel, and Sh28.49 for kerosene. A litre of Super Petrol now retails at Sh226.96, diesel at Sh227.76, and kerosene at Sh219.87.
The price changes reflect a routine adjustment by EPRA, which monitors and sets fuel prices in Kenya. The updated rates apply across Nairobi’s retail outlets, impacting both private and public transport sectors. Drivers and businesses reported immediate changes at the pumps, with some noting higher operational costs.
Fuel price fluctuations are common in Kenya, often linked to global oil market trends and domestic economic policies. This adjustment follows previous hikes in 2023, which led to public concern over inflation and transportation costs. EPRA has not provided specific reasons for the latest increase, but officials have previously cited rising crude oil prices as a key factor. The move underscores the ongoing challenges of managing energy costs in a rapidly growing urban center.
