The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) expelled vice president McDonald Mariga and six National Executive Committee (NEC) members during a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Meru. The decision followed allegations of repeated constitutional and FIFA rule violations.
The meeting, held under heavy police presence, saw Mariga and the six members voted out unanimously. The action came after Mariga fell out with FKF President Hussein Mohammed following the 2025 CHAN finals in Nairobi. The NEC members cited serious breaches of conduct as the basis for the expulsion.
The SGM was disrupted before it began when RDU officers used tear gas, forcing the meeting to be postponed. The FKF condemned the incident, calling it a disruption to the proceedings. Mariga had been charged with misconduct, and the NEC members reportedly supported his removal.
This marks a significant moment in Kenyan football governance, highlighting internal tensions and the enforcement of disciplinary measures. The FKF has not yet announced the next steps or the replacement of the expelled officials. The situation underscores ongoing challenges in maintaining discipline and order within the national football body.
