The Federation of Kenyan Football (FKF) expelled McDonald Mariga and six National Executive Committee (NEC) members during a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Meru. The decision came after allegations of repeated constitutional and FIFA rule violations by the officials.
The meeting, held under heavy police presence, saw Mariga and the six members voted out unanimously. The action followed a fallout between Mariga and FKF President Hussein Mohammed, which occurred after the 2025 CHAN finals in Nairobi.
Teargas was used by RDU officers before the meeting, disrupting proceedings. The FKF condemned the incident, calling it a disruption to the disciplinary process. Mariga, the FKF vice president, was at the center of the charges.
This expulsion marks a significant moment in Kenyan football governance. It follows a pattern of internal conflicts and disciplinary actions within the federation. The FKF has faced increasing pressure to address corruption and mismanagement.
The SGM in Meru highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining discipline and transparency within the organization. The decision reflects a broader effort to restore order and adherence to regulations. The situation remains under review by the federation’s leadership.
