Thousands of Ethiopians have fled their country due to ongoing unrest, seeking refuge in Kenya’s Moyale area. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has called for urgent humanitarian aid as the influx strains local resources. Reports indicate that over 40,000 people have crossed into Kenya since the conflict began.
The KNCHR noted that the situation has worsened, with reports of two women giving birth at Manyatta and two others at Bitiye. These incidents highlight the urgent need for maternal and newborn care. The commission issued a press statement on October 27, 2026, warning that the growing number of arrivals is putting pressure on local infrastructure and services.
The conflict in Ethiopia has led to widespread displacement, with many families forced to leave their homes. The KNCHR emphasized the importance of immediate assistance to meet basic needs, including food, water, and medical care. The situation remains critical, with no signs of immediate resolution. The commission urged international support to address the humanitarian crisis.
