Kenya and Uganda have reported an increase in tourist numbers from each other, with Kenya welcoming 234,556 visitors from Uganda in 2025, up from 201,623 in 2024. This growth has prompted both nations to collaborate on joint holiday packages to further enhance tourism ties.

Tourism operators from Uganda have shown interest in Kenya’s coastal attractions, with 50 operators visiting the coast to explore opportunities for collaboration. The two countries aim to strengthen regional tourism by offering integrated travel experiences that highlight the unique offerings of both nations.

Previously, Uganda acted as a buffer for Kenya against regional health threats, including the Ebola outbreak. However, this dynamic has shifted as both countries now focus on economic cooperation. The recent rise in cross-border tourism reflects a broader trend of regional integration, with efforts to streamline travel and promote shared attractions.

The collaboration between Kenya and Uganda comes amid regional initiatives to boost tourism, such as the joint visa arrangement between Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya ahead of AFCON 2027. These efforts underscore a growing commitment to regional economic development through tourism.
