Kenyan Muslims are facing travel disruptions as Saudi Arabia has suspended Umrah pilgrimages over concerns about the Ebola virus. The decision has affected hundreds of Kenyan pilgrims who had already paid for flights and religious packages. The Saudi Arabian government cited health risks as the primary reason for the ban, citing the potential for the virus to spread through mass gatherings.
Nairobi has expressed concerns over the impact on religious and economic activities, with officials urging the Kingdom to reconsider the restrictions. The Kenyan government has not yet issued an official response, but local religious leaders have called for dialogue with Saudi authorities.
This is the second time Saudi Arabia has imposed restrictions on Umrah pilgrimages, following similar measures in 2014 during the Ebola outbreak. The current ban has raised questions about the balance between public health and religious freedom. While the situation remains under review, pilgrims are advised to monitor updates from both governments.
