The Kenyan government has released the Draft Budget Policy Statement for 2027/28, projecting total spending of Sh5.4 trillion. This represents an increase of Sh10 billion from the previous year’s budget of Sh5.323 trillion. The budget outlines a planned expenditure of 23.6 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), up from 23.1 per cent in the previous fiscal year.
The revised budget includes a significant rise in recurrent spending, which is expected to support essential government operations. The increase reflects the government’s focus on maintaining public services and addressing immediate economic challenges. The budget also highlights planned investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
This adjustment comes amid ongoing economic pressures and inflationary trends. The government has emphasized the need for fiscal discipline while ensuring social protection programs remain adequately funded. The budget was presented as part of the annual fiscal planning process, with further details expected in the official budget document. The increase in spending underscores the government’s commitment to sustaining economic growth and improving public services.
