INTERPOL has arrested 1,462 suspects in a global operation targeting cybercrime, recovering Sh13.6 billion in illicit funds. The operation disrupted 10,909 malicious networks and identified 65,929 victims targeted by organized cybercriminal groups. Financial investigations linked the criminal activities to multiple international networks.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with law enforcement agencies across several countries, focused on financial cybercrime, including fraud, ransomware, and phishing. Authorities seized digital assets and traced transactions to dismantle the networks. The recovered funds are being processed for redistribution to affected victims.
This is one of the largest cybercrime operations in INTERPOL’s history. The agency has been intensifying efforts to combat digital crime, particularly in regions where financial fraud has surged. Previous operations have targeted similar networks, but this one involved a broader scale and more sophisticated methods. The operation highlights the growing challenge of cybercrime and the need for international cooperation to address it.
