McDonald Mariga, former player for Hrambee Stars, was expelled from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee. The decision followed a Special General Meeting in Meru County where seven NEC members, including Mariga, were removed under Articles 24(N) and 24(O) of the FKF Constitution.
Mariga and six other officials contested their expulsion, challenging the process used to remove them. The General Assembly voted to expel the seven NEC members, citing constitutional provisions. Police used tear gas during the meeting, indicating the tension surrounding the decision.
This marks the first major disciplinary action by the FKF in recent months. The removal of Mariga and others has raised questions about the federation’s governance structure. The process has been criticized for lacking transparency, with some officials claiming procedural irregularities. The FKF has not yet released a formal statement on the matter. The situation highlights ongoing challenges in maintaining internal discipline and consensus within the federation.
