The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has expelled McDonald Mariga and six National Executive Committee (NEC) members following a contentious vote at a Special General Meeting in Meru County. The decision came after the General Assembly approved the removal of all seven NEC members under Articles 24(N) and 24(O) of the FKF Constitution.
Mariga, a former Harambee Stars player, and the six other officials contested their expulsion, challenging the process used to remove them. The meeting, held in Meru County, was marked by tension, with police using tear gas to control the crowd. The expelled members argue the process was flawed and that their removal violated procedural fairness.
This follows a long-standing disagreement within the FKF leadership over governance and disciplinary actions. The expelled officials had previously raised concerns about the transparency and legitimacy of the disciplinary measures applied to them. The FKF has not yet released a formal statement on the legal challenges brought by the expelled members. The situation highlights ongoing tensions within the football federation’s leadership structure.
