Edwin Sifuna, Nairobi Senator and presidential candidate, announced plans to reduce state spending by Sh500 billion if elected in 2027. His campaign outlined a strategy to eliminate wasteful expenditure within the first 100 days of his administration. Sifuna accused officials of losing public funds through unnecessary spending and referred to it as “budgeted corruption.”
The proposal includes scrapping fuel and electricity taxes, which Sifuna claims contribute to economic strain on citizens. His campaign emphasized transparency and efficiency in public spending, arguing that current practices are unsustainable. The plan aims to redirect resources toward essential services and infrastructure development.
Sifuna’s campaign has also seen internal shifts, with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua offering to replace Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya as campaign director if Sifuna is chosen to lead the coalition. This move reflects ongoing strategic adjustments within the political alliance.
Sifuna’s economic agenda has gained traction among voters concerned about public finance and corruption. His focus on fiscal responsibility aligns with broader public demands for accountability. The 2027 election remains a key moment for political realignment in the region.
