Missing activist Boniface Mulinge Muteti was discovered injured and disoriented in the Lukenya area early Monday. He had been missing for several days and was found by a Good Samaritan who helped him reach a petrol station. Muteti was then taken to a hospital in Mlolongo for treatment.
The discovery came days after another activist, Collins Otieno, went missing, raising concerns among human rights groups. Hussein Khalid, a prominent human rights activist, expressed alarm over Otieno’s disappearance and called for his immediate release. Khalid noted the timing of Otieno’s disappearance following Muteti’s reappearance, suggesting a possible pattern of targeted disappearances.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the circumstances surrounding Otieno’s disappearance. While Muteti’s case has ended in a fortunate outcome, the ongoing concerns highlight the risks faced by activists in the region. Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
