Safaricom, Kenya’s leading telecommunications company, has announced a new initiative to drive digital transformation across Africa. The plan focuses on improving digital infrastructure, enhancing public services, and supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The initiative was launched at the 2025 Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI) and includes the creation of Action Pathways—year-round platforms designed to foster collaboration, investment, and implementation of digital projects.
The initiative emphasizes the role of artificial intelligence and data governance in shaping the continent’s future. By investing in skills development, Safaricom aims to empower local talent and create sustainable job opportunities. The company also plans to work closely with governments and private sector stakeholders to ensure the initiative aligns with regional priorities.
The move comes as Africa continues to expand its digital economy, with increasing demand for reliable internet and innovative technologies. Safaricom’s leadership in this area highlights its commitment to driving economic growth and digital inclusion across the continent. The initiative is expected to have a long-term impact on how digital services are delivered and accessed in African countries.
