A 40,000-tonne cargo of petroleum has arrived at Mombasa Port, marking the start of a new energy agreement between Kenya and Rwanda. The shipment, destined for Rwanda, was officially received by officials from both countries during a ceremony led by Armand Zingiro, Minister of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure, and Opiyo Wandayi, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary.
The deal aims to enhance regional energy cooperation, with the potential to increase petroleum volumes along the Northern Corridor by up to ten times in the future. This initiative reflects growing economic integration between East African nations, focusing on improving supply chains and energy security.
The fuel, transported via Kenya’s strategic port, underscores the importance of Mombasa as a key logistics hub for regional trade. Officials highlighted the significance of the agreement in strengthening economic ties and supporting industrial growth in the region.
The successful arrival of the first shipment signals a major step in the implementation of the bilateral energy pact, with plans for regular deliveries in the coming months.
