Kenya Airways has transported more than 50 live cattle from Nairobi to Lagos, marking its first shipment of live cattle to Nigeria. The flight departed Nairobi on Monday and arrived in Lagos after a flight duration of approximately six hours. The cattle, sourced from local farms, were transported in specialized containers designed to ensure their welfare during transit.
The shipment comes as part of Kenya Airways' efforts to expand its livestock export services. This marks a significant step in strengthening trade relations between Kenya and Nigeria, two neighboring countries with growing agricultural sectors. The move also highlights the potential for increased cross-border trade in livestock, which could benefit both economies.
Livestock trade between Kenya and Nigeria has seen gradual growth in recent years, driven by demand for meat and dairy products in Nigeria. However, regulatory and logistical challenges have limited the scale of such trade. Kenya Airways' initiative aims to address these challenges by providing a reliable and efficient transport option. The success of this first shipment could pave the way for more regular livestock exports from Kenya to Nigeria in the future.
