Employers in Nairobi are being urged to prioritize accuracy in stablecoin payroll systems, despite the speed of blockchain transactions, according to speakers at the Africa Blockchain Festival 2026. Benjamin O. Ajibola, Africa lead at StatePay, emphasized that employers must ensure workers receive the correct amount, not just the speed of digital asset transfers.
Ajibola outlined concerns around tax, regulation, and accounting when using stablecoins for payroll. He noted that while stablecoins offer quick money movement, they do not automatically guarantee accurate payments. Employers must verify that employees are receiving the right amounts, he said.
The discussion took place during the Africa Blockchain Festival 2026, which brought together industry experts and policymakers in Nairobi. The event focused on the challenges and opportunities of digital finance in Africa.
The use of stablecoins for payroll is still in early stages across the continent. While the technology allows for faster transactions, it also raises questions about compliance and transparency. Experts at the festival stressed the need for clear guidelines to ensure that workers are not disadvantaged by the shift to digital payment systems.
This marks one of the first major discussions on stablecoin payroll in Africa, highlighting the growing interest in blockchain-based financial solutions. As more companies explore digital payment methods, the focus remains on balancing innovation with responsibility.
