A building in Eastleigh, Nairobi, collapsed, prompting an investigation into potentially forged documents used to secure construction approvals. Government Spokesperson Charles Owino raised concerns about discrepancies in the approval process, questioning how the National Construction Authority (NCA) could have issued approvals without proper county-level clearance.
The NCA has named the developer, contractor, and engineers involved in the collapsed structure. The developer is 9th Street Plaza Limited, and the contractor is Stromax Holdings E.A. Limited. Emmanuel Mwangi Maina was listed as one of the engineers. Investigators are now examining the authenticity of the documents used to obtain construction permits.
This incident follows growing scrutiny of the NCA’s oversight role in ensuring building safety. Police have warned of potential criminal negligence charges, highlighting the need for stricter compliance with construction regulations. The collapse has intensified calls for transparency in the approval process and accountability for those involved in the project.
