Ghana and Russia have announced plans to develop a 2,000-megawatt nuclear power plant. The project is part of broader efforts to strengthen energy security and support industrialization. Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa confirmed the agreement during the Russia-Africa Summit.

The nuclear power plant will be developed through collaboration with Russia’s state nuclear corporation, Rosatom. Discussions between the two nations focus on large-scale energy projects. The initiative aims to provide a stable and sustainable energy source for Ghana.

Ghana has long sought to diversify its energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The country has also been working with other international partners to expand its energy infrastructure. This new project marks a significant step in Ghana’s energy strategy.

Russia has been actively engaging with African nations to promote nuclear energy projects. The country has already been in talks with four African countries, including Ghana, on large-scale nuclear initiatives. The Ghana project is expected to be one of the key outcomes of these discussions.

This development comes as Ghana continues to seek international support for its economic and energy goals. The nuclear power plant could play a crucial role in meeting the country’s growing energy demands and supporting its industrial development.
