Babu Owino, member of parliament for Embakasi East, has announced plans to merge The Mwananchi Party with the Ukombozi People’s Party under the Linda Mwananchi movement. The move comes as opposition figures seek to consolidate their political strength ahead of the 2027 general elections. Owino stated that the coalition would be led by Linda Mwananchi, a key figure in the movement, and that he would continue supporting Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s initiatives.
The political alliance is part of broader efforts to resolve internal divisions among opposition leaders. Recent tensions between Owino and Sifuna have prompted intervention from senior figures, including President Rigathi Gachagua. Gachagua reportedly called both leaders to address the conflict and assigned Senator John Methu to mediate between them.
