Police in Meru, Kenya, detained 12 drivers during a crackdown on drink-driving, as the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) intensified efforts to enforce traffic laws. The operation, conducted in collaboration with other agencies, focused on road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.
The arrests followed a coordinated road safety campaign aimed at reducing accidents caused by impaired driving. Officers stopped vehicles for random checks, testing drivers for alcohol consumption. All detained individuals were taken into custody for further investigation.
This operation is part of a broader initiative by the NTSA to improve road safety across Kenya. Similar campaigns have been carried out in other regions, with authorities reporting a rise in traffic violations linked to alcohol use. The current operation in Meru is seen as a step toward stricter enforcement of traffic laws and safer roads for all users.
