WSO2, a global leader in digital identity and data exchange, has unveiled a vision for creating a unified digital infrastructure to enhance government operations across Africa. At the WSO2Con Africa 2026 event, Mifan Careem, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Solutions BU, highlighted the challenges faced by governments in integrating digital identity systems, online services, and APIs. Despite having these components, many governments struggle to ensure seamless interoperability, leading to inefficiencies and fragmented service delivery.
Careem emphasized the need for a cohesive platform that connects identity management with data exchange and artificial intelligence. This integration, he argued, would allow for more efficient public services, better citizen engagement, and improved decision-making. The proposed system would enable secure, real-time data sharing between government agencies while maintaining privacy and compliance with local regulations.
The initiative is part of WSO2’s broader strategy to support digital transformation in emerging markets. By leveraging AI, the system could automate administrative tasks, predict citizen needs, and streamline bureaucratic processes. While the plan is still in the conceptual phase, WSO2 is working with regional partners to pilot the framework in select African countries. The success of such an approach could set a new standard for digital governance in the continent.
