Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has indicated that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will push for significant concessions from President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) before supporting his 2027 re-election bid. Kaluma confirmed that ODM, now a government partner, is prepared to negotiate from a strong position. The ODM has previously been an opposition party but has since aligned with the ruling coalition.

Kaluma stated that the ODM is determined to secure major political and economic benefits before fully committing to Ruto’s campaign. The negotiations are expected to focus on resource allocation, policy priorities, and electoral strategies. The ODM has expressed concerns over the distribution of power and financial support within the coalition.

This development comes as Ruto’s government faces growing pressure to address economic challenges and public discontent. The ODM’s shift from opposition to coalition partner has raised questions about the stability of the ruling alliance. The upcoming pre-election talks are seen as a critical moment in shaping the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
