The Nairobi police have warned drivers that any traffic accident resulting in death will be treated as a homicide case. This directive was issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

Regional Criminal Investigations Officer Daniel Kandie emphasized that motorists have a legal responsibility to exercise caution on the roads. He stated that fatal traffic offenses will now be investigated under homicide laws. The warning comes as part of a broader effort to reduce road fatalities in the city.

This policy follows a rise in traffic-related deaths in Nairobi over the past year. According to local reports, more than 200 people were killed in road accidents in 2025. The DCI aims to hold drivers accountable for reckless behavior that leads to loss of life. The new approach reflects a shift in how traffic violations are handled in the region.
