Mt Kenya elders have officially endorsed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as the region’s new spokesman, following a symbolic return of an axe to traditional leaders. The decision comes after a contentious meeting where political leaders debated the role of traditional authority in shaping regional governance. Kindiki, who has been reappointed to the position, is seen as a key figure in President William Ruto’s strategy for the 2027 re-election campaign.
However, not all political figures are satisfied with the outcome.
