The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has officially endorsed Dr Davji Atellah for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election. The decision was announced in a statement posted on X on October 18, 2026.
The union, representing medical professionals across Kenya, cited efforts to expand doctors’ welfare advocacy into parliamentary affairs as a key factor in the endorsement. Dr Atellah, currently serving as the union’s Secretary General, will now campaign for the Lang’ata constituency. The endorsement marks a strategic move to influence policy from within the legislative body.
This is the first time the KMPDU has endorsed a candidate for a parliamentary seat. The union has historically focused on advocacy rather than electoral politics. The move reflects growing pressure from medical professionals to have a direct voice in legislative decisions affecting their working conditions and public health policies. The 2027 General Election is expected to see increased participation from professional unions seeking greater political representation.
