Kenya has begun a pilot program to simplify birth registration through electronic notifications in three counties. The initiative, set to start on Mashujaa Day, involves Nandi, Uasin Gishu, and Elgeyo Marakwet. The government aims to connect hospital records with civil registration systems.
The new system will allow hospitals to send electronic notifications about new births directly to the national registry. This is intended to reduce administrative delays and ensure more accurate data. Officials say the pilot will test the feasibility of integrating health and civil records.
The move follows years of efforts to improve birth registration in Kenya. Previously, families had to manually submit forms to local authorities. The new process is part of a broader strategy to modernize public services. The pilot will run for several months before potential expansion to other regions.
