Kenya has discharged its first five confirmed Ebola patients from quarantine, marking a significant milestone in its response to the Bundibugyo virus outbreak. The patients, all men, were treated at two major hospitals in Nairobi. Two received care at Kenyatta National Hospital, while the remaining three were treated at The Nairobi Hospital. All five tested negative for the virus and were cleared to leave quarantine.
Alongside the patients, 46 additional contacts of confirmed cases were released from quarantine. These individuals had been under observation for a period deemed sufficient to rule out infection. The release follows a coordinated effort by health authorities to monitor and manage potential spread of the virus.
This development comes as Kenya continues to implement strict containment measures. The Bundibugyo virus, first identified in 2022, has seen sporadic outbreaks in the region. Health officials have emphasized the importance of continued vigilance, as the virus remains a public health concern. The release of the patients and contacts reflects the country’s ongoing efforts to control the outbreak through medical intervention and community monitoring.
