President William Ruto handed over 20,189 title deeds to Lamu residents. The move is part of a broader government initiative to improve land ownership and housing in the region.
The government will invest KSh7.5 billion to build 3,000 housing units in Lamu County. The Affordable Housing Programme aims to meet rising demand as the area prepares for the Dangote East Africa Refinery. The project is expected to create jobs and boost local economies.
The Dangote refinery, valued at $16 billion, is set to begin operations in 40 months. It will offer employment opportunities to Lamu graduates and train over 1,000 local workers. The refinery is part of Kenya’s push for industrial self-reliance.
The housing investment follows concerns about land and investment in the region. The government aims to provide stable housing for residents as the refinery develops. The title deed handover supports efforts to secure land rights for local communities.
The project highlights Kenya’s focus on infrastructure and economic growth. The government is working to balance development with community needs in Lamu.
