The Kenyan Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for healthcare facilities to complete their transition from the Social Health Authority (SHA) Provider Portal to the Health Management Information System (HMIS). Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale announced the extension in a statement issued on October 1, 2026, granting an additional month for facilities that have not yet finished the process.
The extension applies to public Level 5 and 6 facilities, faith-based organization (FBO) facilities, and other designated institutions. Duale emphasized that the move aims to improve data management and service delivery across the healthcare sector. The original deadline for the transition had been set for September 30, 2026, but the new deadline is now October 31, 2026.
The transition from SHA to HMIS is part of broader efforts to modernize Kenya’s healthcare infrastructure. The new system is designed to streamline administrative processes, enhance transparency, and support better resource allocation. Health facilities are required to update their records and integrate with the HMIS to ensure accurate reporting and efficient service delivery.
This shift follows a series of announcements from the Ministry of Health, which has been working to improve digital health management across the country. The extension reflects the government’s recognition of the challenges faced by some institutions in fully adopting the new system. The move is expected to strengthen the overall efficiency and coordination of healthcare services in Kenya.
