A Kangema magistrate and a probation officer have been charged with bribery following an operation by the Economic and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). The charges were approved by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and include the two officials in connection with an alleged bribe receipt.
The EACC operation in Kangema town led to the arrest of the magistrate, Martin Kinyua Mutegi, and the probation officer, who were allegedly involved in receiving Sh150,000 from a complainant. The magistrate has been summoned to appear in court, while the probation officer was released on Sh400,000 bail.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by EACC to combat corruption within the judiciary. Both officials are now under investigation, with the ODPP ordering their immediate arraignment. The operation underscores the commission’s focus on holding public officials accountable for financial misconduct.
The details of the alleged bribe and the full extent of the investigation remain under review by the authorities.
