Former Sports Principal Secretary Peter Kaberia is among ten individuals charged with alleged financial misconduct related to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) funding. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved charges against Kaberia and four other government officials, along with five businessmen, following an investigation into the misuse of funds. The case centers on the alleged misappropriation of Sh330 million intended for CHAN-related activities.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) recently arrested Kaberia and five others over an irregular Ksh1.5 billion stadia tender linked to the 2018 CHAN. The suspects were detained on Tuesday as part of an ongoing probe into the awarding and payment of the contract. The investigation suggests potential corruption in the allocation of public funds for sports infrastructure.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the full extent of the financial irregularities or the specific roles of the accused. The case highlights ongoing concerns about transparency in the management of public funds for major sporting events. Legal proceedings are expected to unfold in the coming weeks as the charges are formally presented.
