A citizen has filed a lawsuit demanding transparency over funds raised for the Linda Mwananchi project, accusing Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Linda Mwananchi of misusing contributions. The petitioner, Alan Masakhalia, who donated Sh55, seeks court orders compelling both individuals to disclose all expenditures from the funds. The legal action follows a fundraising campaign launched on July 21, 2026, through Paybill 3033049, registered under Sifuna’s name as Linda Mwananchi had not yet been officially registered at the time.
The case highlights concerns over the management of public funds intended to support the project. The petitioner argues that the funds contributed by citizens should be accounted for, with full disclosure of how they were used. The legal challenge comes amid public interest in the project’s progress and the accountability of those involved.
The controversy has drawn attention to the transparency of political fundraising efforts. While some, like Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, have claimed success in mobilizing support for the project, the legal action underscores growing scrutiny over financial accountability in political campaigns. The court’s response to the petition will determine the next steps in ensuring transparency.
