NTSA launched an investigation into a fatal road accident in Salama, Makueni County, where 17 pilgrims lost their lives. The crash occurred on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, near Mikindani Parish, as the group travelled to Subukia. Several others were injured and receiving medical treatment.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) dispatched a multi-disciplinary team to the scene to investigate the incident. Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir ordered the probe, emphasizing the need to determine the circumstances of the crash. The team is supporting police efforts to establish what led to the early Saturday morning accident.

This is the second major road accident in the area this month. Previous incidents have raised concerns about road safety along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway. Local authorities are under pressure to improve infrastructure and enforcement to prevent similar tragedies. The investigation is ongoing, with no official cause yet confirmed.
